Pollennieuws is an application designed to keep users informed about the latest information on pollen and hay fever on a daily basis.

The primary goal of Pollennieuws is to empower individuals to recognize and avoid pollen-producing plants that trigger hay fever symptoms during their blooming periods. This feature is especially beneficial for users planning outdoor activities such as sports or leisure walks. Additionally, the app supports the adjustment of hay fever medication based on current pollen levels.

The application comprises several key components:

• Pollen Map: Independent biologists provide a daily pollen map for the Netherlands, detailing the expected pollen levels in the air during dry weather conditions. This information is updated by Pollennieuws each morning around 7:00 AM and more frequently if necessary.
• Symptom Tracker: Users can indicate their current level of discomfort from hay fever on a scale from 1 to 10 using a slider, as well as specify their symptoms. Immediate feedback is provided through a bar graph representing the national trend, which Pollennieuws utilizes to enhance forecasting models.
• Pollen Journal: Biologist Maurice Martens from Flora van Nederland regularly contributes brief updates summarizing the latest developments in pollen counts.
• Bloom Trends: The app indicates bloom trends for various groups of trees, grasses, and herbs.
• 5-Day Hay Fever Forecast: Users receive predictions regarding hay fever levels over the coming days.
• Bloom Calendar: This calendar outlines the blooming periods of the most significant trees, shrubs, grasses, and herbs at the species level. Additional information available on the website www.pollennieuws.nl includes video content about different species.
• Pollen Counts: A graph displays the most recent pollen counts sourced from the pollen counting station at Elkerliek Hospital in Helmond.
• Twitter Feed: A feed showcasing the latest tweets from Pollennieuws on Twitter is also included.

Please note that this application requires a reliable internet connection for optimal performance; lacking this may hinder its functionality.

The logging feature present in previous versions of Pollennieuws has been removed. For tracking symptoms, collaboration has been established with MedApp, a specialized and free application.
